Students visit the University of Cambridge

During the first week of half term, nine students from Sir John Talbot’s School had the exciting opportunity to visit Cambridge for two days.

On the first day they attended the triennial Greek Play at the Arts Theatre in Cambridge. This year, University students performed The Persians by Aeschylus and The Cyclops by Euripides, in ancient Greek. The Persians is the earliest complete European play as well as being an historical play, itself unusual in Greek tragedy. The Cyclops provided comic relief after the tragedy.

On the second day, the group went to Magdalene College for a tour and talks about the University admission process, college life, and choosing A Levels. After lunch at Magdalene, there was a tour of St. John’s College. The visit ended with a punting tour from Madgalene to Queen’s College and back.

Thanks to Dr Garrett who accompanied the group and provided much historical information as we walked around the city and to Mrs Morcumb for driving the minbus.
